Study of DC Fault Current Components and Fast DC Fault Detection Approach in VSC-Based Multi-Terminal MTDC Networks

چکیده :
Due to worldwide tendency to renewable resources, High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) transmission systems have been used to transmitted high values of electrical energy in long distances more than any time in recent years. Among all new technologies, Voltage Source Converter (VSC) technology implementation in HVDC transmission has been discussed, but its behavior against DC faults is expected to need more investigations. As DC Fault occurs in VSC-based DC grids, IGBT switches are blocked, causing a short circuit between AC side and DC side. Consequently, DC fault signals not only include DC signal component, but also AC side signal, its subharmonics and harmonics. These alternating components can be useful, especially in protection systems. In this paper, DC fault current has been analyzed using theoretical and simulation means; A Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is used to discover DC fault signal component. Subsequently, a fast DC fault detection scheme based on alternating components is proposed; Least Squared Errors (LSE) algorithm is used to extract desired AC component in a DC fault current as an index. In This research, PSCAD/EMTDC has been used for simulation studies and signals analysis have been executed in MATLAB.
