Experimental Friction Modeling in a Linear Lorentz Actuator

چکیده :
This paper presents an experimental study on friction modeling and parameter identification in a planar Lorentz actuator using the Generalized Maxwell Slip (GMS) framework. The actuator’s special planar magnetic design, combined with high-resolution sensing and real-time control, enables detailed characterization of both sliding and pre-sliding friction regimes. Two identification methodologies were implemented and compared: a classical semi-manual approach based on steady-state and virgin-curve analysis, and an optimization- based method employing a structured two-stage parameter estimation procedure. Experimental validation under independent excitation profiles confirmed that the optimized GMS model provides significantly improved estimation accuracy across both regimes, with a marked reduction in mean-square error com- pared to the classical method. The proposed identi cation strategy offers a physically interpretable and computationally efficient foundation for high-fidelity friction modeling, facilitating enhanced feedforward compensation and precision control in Lorentz actuators and other mechatronic systems.
