Extreme Modulation Index Using Time Periodic Epsilon-Near-Zero Materials

چکیده :
We introduce the realization of extreme temporal modulation index using time-periodic epsilon near zero media. Owing to a vanishingly small average permittivity, such extreme modulation becomes attainable even with very low modulation amplitudes, a feature inaccessible in studied time-periodic media to-date. Large temporal modulation of permittivity couples the incident wave into many sideband frequencies, thereby generating equally spaced transmission and reflection spectra spanning a wide range. Under conditions of extreme modulation index, frequency-comb behaviour, a phenomenon of significant relevance to modern photonics is attained. In particular, we analyse electromagnetic scattering from a linear time periodic epsilon near zero slab under normal incidence, employing the transfer matrix method to demonstrate the emergence of frequency comb like spectra. These analytical predictions are further validated through time domain simulation results.
