Genetic-Algorithm-Based Design of a Variable-Order Fractional PID Controller for Artificial Pancreas Systems

چکیده :
This paper presents the design of a Variable-Order Fractional PID (VOFPID) controller for an Artificial Pancreas (AP) system. In contrast to existing approaches, the proposed structure adjusts the fractional integral and derivative orders in a time-varying manner based on the error signal and reference input signal to enhance controller flexibility and performance. The optimal controller parameters are tuned by the Genetic Algorithm (GA) by minimizing the Integral of Time-weighted Absolute Error (ITAE) criterion. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed controller not only reduces oscillations and achieves desirable transient behavior but also requires significantly less control effort. Based on these findings, the application of variable-order fractional calculus presents a promising avenue for the development of next-generation blood glucose regulation systems.
