چکیده :
System behavior and temporal evolution of charge/current at and near Exceptional points of degeneracy (EPD) in both lossless and lossy time-periodic RLC(t) resonator is analyzed, filling important gaps in existing understanding and literature on EPD in presence of loss. The temporal band structure and key operating points of lossless vs a lossy resonator is shown, highlighting subtleties and key differences of EPD in each case, in addition to the onset of instability, for the first time. Throughout, the more popular sinusoidal capacitance modulation is used rather than the more simply analyzed two level periodic modulation as done in previous studies. The explicit form of linear temporal growth of charge/current at EPD, vs other forms outside, is derived for general periodic modulation and verified via transient simulations. The results of this paper paves an important path to better understanding of realistic devices such as sensors and parametric amplifiers operating near EPD, by creating a deeper understanding of their fundamental behavior in presence of loss.
