Adaptive Droop-Based Coordination of Grid-Forming and Grid-Following Inverters for Frequency Response Enhancement in Hybrid Renewable Energy Microgrids

چکیده :
The increasing penetration of inverter-based renewable energy resources in modern power systems significantly reduces system inertia, resulting in degraded frequency stability. This paper proposes an adaptive droop-based coordination strategy between grid-forming and grid-following inverters to enhance frequency response in hybrid renewable energy microgrids. A decentralized consensus-protocol-based multi-agent system is employed to achieve state-of-charge balancing among distributed battery energy storage systems while simultaneously providing fast frequency response. The proposed strategy eliminates reliance on centralized control, thereby improving scalability and resilience. Comprehensive simulation studies conducted on a modified IEEE 39-bus hybrid microgrid demonstrate that the proposed method effectively improves frequency nadir, reduces the rate of change of frequency, and ensures balanced battery utilization under various disturbance scenarios.
