چکیده :
repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been limited by models of either neglecting intra-somatic field redistributions or assuming an electrically homogeneous soma. Previous Cable Equation formulations offer little assistance in optimizing the latter within safe limits for improving the network-level excitability. This paper derives an Extended Cable Equation model encompassing the nucleus, culminating in the Effective Action Potential (EAP) Equation, which involves nucleus-cytoplasm coupling terms for longitudinal and transversely integrated field components to accurately portray somatic depolarization and its secondary transfer to the Axon Initial Segment. This approach in single cell-level networks translates the detection of reduced threshold currents, faster SPK timing, and higher excitability probability with unchanged intensity in trials. At the network-level architecture, it improves SPK, synchrony, and TD EI dynamics within safe currents, proving waveform optimization can improve rTMS by leveraging nucleus coupling.
