چکیده :
Microwave hyperthermia is an effective non-invasive method for treating various conditions, including cancerous tumors. In this method, electromagnetic fields are focused within the body to generate heat. Despite numerous studies conducted in this area, the application of this method for treating deep-seated brain tumors remains controversial. In this article, a hyperthermia system is presented for increasing tumor temperature in the depth of the brain, based on an array of miniaturized Yagi-Uda antennas operating at a frequency of 1.5 GHz. By using a metal cavity, the performance of the antenna and the coupling between elements are enhanced, leading to better focusing. Additionally, a layer of cooling liquid is placed adjacent to the head, which not only facilitates impedance matching (between air and the head) but also contributes to the miniaturization of the antenna. The arrangement of antennas is designed so that the center of symmetry and the focal point of the antennas coincide with the tumor location. With this method, the antennas are excited with the same amplitude and phase, eliminating the need for complex and impractical feeding networks. Simulation results for a homogenized head tissue indicate that the electric field intensity and power density obtained at various tumor locations are highly favorable.
