A 30dB and 250μW High Linear Variable Gain Amplifier with Employing Gm-boosting and Common Mode Feedforward Techniques

چکیده :
This paper presents a low power, high linear variable gain amplifier (VGA) for wireless sensor network (WSN) applications in the 0.18μm CMOS technology. The circuit is based on g_m-boosting technique to achieve high linearity performance and uses Common-Mode Feed-Forward (CMFF) technique to suppress the input common mode signals at the output with a minimum cost of area and power consumption. This makes double the transconductance of the circuit and further reduce the power needed to achieve good performance in terms of gain and input referred noise. The circuit consumes only 250μW under a 1.8v supply voltage and the differential output swing is around 600 mVp-p. The voltage gain is in the range between 0 dB to 30 dB in steps of 6 dB and the minimum 3 dB bandwidth is 4.7 MHz with capacitive loads of 4.5 pF. The input-referred noise (IRN) voltage is 12.75 nV⁄√Hz at high gain and third input intercept point (IIP3) of proposed VGA is 22 dBm at low gain.
