Controllerless SDN: A Novel Architecture to Improve Software-Defined Networks Security

چکیده :
In Software-Defined Networks (SDN), control layer is logically centralized. This design can lead to Single Point of Failure (SPoF). Controller is the brain of a software-defined network. In case of controller being compromised, the whole network would be compromised. Many solutions have been proposed to improve security of SDN control layer. Some of these solutions are preventive and have been proposed to prevent controller from being compromised. Other solutions have been proposed to improve SDN security in case of existence of a malicious controller. All of these solutions have their own weaknesses that have been mentioned later in this paper. In this paper, for the first time, we propose a software-defined network architecture without controller called “Controllerless SDN”, in which the network does not rely on a centralized entity. Controller tasks are distributed into other network entities such as blockchain, blockchain oracles and applications. This makes the network not to depend on one controller in centralized architecture or homogeneous controllers in distributed architectures of SDN.
