چکیده :
The escalating levels of greenhouse gas (GHG) emission is one of the principal global concerns. Given that a substantial portion of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions can be attributed to transportation systems, there has been a gradual surge in the adoption of electric railway systems (ERS) over the past decade. However, ERS stands as one of the prominent consumers of electrical energy globally, prompting researchers and governments to increasingly focus on integrating renewable energy sources into the ERS sector. Among the innovative, sustainable, and eco-friendly solutions for satisfying both mentioned problems, the installation of solar photovoltaic systems on train station rooftops has gained significant traction. This paper presents an implementation of a photovoltaic power generation system on the roof of Milan's Bovisa Train Station in Italy. The study utilizes PVsol software to carry out the assessment and establishes a case study to investigate the practical application of solar energy systems for powering the entire array of electrical systems within the Bovisa train station, which includes lighting, escalators, elevators, air conditioning, heating, passenger information services, and commercial facilities. In this study, integrating a PV power plant on the train station rooftop generates 634.9 kW of sustainable power, reducing 287,018 kg of carbon emissions annually. This not only meets station demand but also demonstrates the system's capacity to inject surplus energy into the grid, significantly reducing GHG emissions. These results underscore the efficiency and environmental impact of this work.
