Analysis of Anti-Reflection Coating Effects on the Absorption Characteristics of Borophene/Graphene-Based Optical Absorbers

— This study numerically investigates the influence of the anti-reflection coating (ARC) layer on the absorption characteristics of borophene- and graphene-based plasmonic absorbers. The in-consideration absorber is based on a metal–insulator–metal (MIM) configuration, where the two-dimensional (2D) material layer is integrated with a Ti resonator array and a SiO₂ or Si₃N₄ ARC layer. The structures are analyzed using the finite difference time domain method (FDTD) to evaluate the influence of ARC layer on light confinement, absorption bandwidth, and field enhancement. Results indicate that the presence of an optimized ARC layer significantly enhances the absorption efficiency—particularly in borophene-based absorbers—by improving impedance matching and reducing surface reflection. While both absorbers demonstrate broadband absorption, borophene shows superior performance in the near-infrared regime due to its higher surface carrier density and stronger plasmonic response. The obtained results highlight the potential of ARC-enhanced 2D absorbers for broadband photonic applications.
