MoS2 Grating on a Grounded Periodic SiO2 as a Wideband THz Absorber

In this paper, we design a wideband Terahertz (THz) absorber based on Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS₂) on a periodically perforated substrate backed by a thin gold plane. Such an inhomogeneous substrate consists of periodic air holes drilled within a Silicon Dioxide (SiO₂) dielectric slab. Using TE- and TM-polarized plane-wave diffraction analysis of MoS2 grating for various cell shapes, it is found that the final unit cell can perform as a wideband absorber (2.9~6THz). The absorptivity of the proposed structure is more than 75% within the mentioned bandwidth for normal incident plane-waves. In addition to, the efficiency of the proposed THz absorber is assessed once the obliquely incident plane-waves are impinged on the MoS2 grating with different incident angles. By means of numerical analysis, it is shown that the performance of such an absorber is efficient for incident angle up to 60°. Such a single-layer absorber can be employed for bio-sensors and tunable optoelectronic devices within the low-THz spectrum.
