An Improved U-Type Inter-Modular Biased-Flux Permanent Magnet Motor

چکیده :
This paper proposes an improved inter-modular permanent magnet (IMPM) motor where the PMs are effectively splitted in a way that the air-gap harmonics are manipulated. The torque ripple of the proposed structure is greatly reduced and the magneto motive force throughout the air-gap experiences more transition under stator side teeth. The operation principle of the proposed structure is explored and it is compared with the IMPM motor. Moreover, it is explained how the proposed structure still maintains the cooling vents that are available in the IMPM topology. The efficiency and power factor of the proposed structure is also improved. It has been investigated that the addition of a flux bridge above the PMs will substantially decrease the demagnetization of the PMs. The over-load capability of the two structures are almost the same. The results of the simulation section are obtained through two-dimensional finite element method (2-D FEM).
