چکیده :
Troposphere metrological features scatter the electromagnetic waves. This phenomenon is employed in some beyond line-of-sight communication systems and passive radar detections, e.g., early warning radars. Tropospheric scatter (troposcatter) is a valuable candidate for detecting far huge targets such as ships on the surface. In this paper, the analytical method of using active radar based on troposcatter is presented. Multi path and various scattering from different parts of troposphere is considered in this method. In addition, effects of some parameters including elevation angle, frequency bandwidth, and radar cross section of a target on signal to noise ratio are discussed. It is also shown that the operating range of active radar for probability of detection 0.8 and probability of false alarm 10^(-8) is around 200 km. This method allows designers to improve system performance by optimizing each variable.
