A New Method Based on Emprical Wavelet Transform in Order to Detect Current Transformer Saturation in Distance Relay

چکیده :
Current Transformers (CT) used to protect power systems generally use a ferromagnetic core. Therefore, they are subject to magnetic saturation, which occurs due to residual flux remaining in the core before a fault occurs. When a current transformer saturates, its current waveform changes. This can cause the protective relays to malfunction. Most protection relays have saturation current compensation to estimate the actual current. In addition, some protection relays change their calculations during CT saturation. All of these cases depend on CT saturation detection. For this reason, a CT saturation detection algorithm based on the empirical wavelet transform (EWT) signal decomposition method is presented in this article. The presented method was tested with the software DIgSILENT and MATLAB in an IEEE 39 bus standard network. The simulation results demonstrate that the presented method has exceptional performance at CT saturation for all types of defects and also for noisy signals.
