A Wearable Hexagonal Patch Antenna on Felt with a Diagonal Slot and Integrated EBG for Stable Multi-Band On-Body Operation

چکیده :
This paper presents a wearable antenna engineered for stable 5-GHz operation by integrating three key components: an octagonal felt substrate, a hexagonal radiating patch with a diagonal slot, and a two-dimensional electromagnetic bandgap (EBG) layer. The felt substrate provides low permittivity and natural conformity to body curvature, while the diagonal slot establishes orthogonal current paths that enable circular polarization and broaden the impedance bandwidth. The EBG layer suppresses surface waves and enhances forward radiation. Analytical formulas guide the initial patch design, and full-wave simulations confirm strong impedance matching, with |S11| < –40 dB, as well as an axial ratio below 3 dB across the operating band, satisfying the circular-polarization requirement. The antenna also delivers a gain of approximately 8.5 dB, maintains stable radiation characteristics under bending, and demonstrates scalability through a 4×1 array configuration. These results indicate that the proposed structure offers a compact and robust solution for wearable and body-centric wireless systems.
