چکیده :
In recent years, the growing penetration of distributed generation resources and the increasing role of Prosumers have introduced substantial technical and economic challenges to distribution networks. Traditional tariff design, based on principles such as economic efficiency, Equity, and the financial sustainability of distribution companies, is significantly affected by these developments. Behind-the-meter generation and Prosumer behavior not only create technical issues such as voltage rise, power fluctuations, and reduced network stability but also lead to economic concerns, most notably the “death spiral” phenomenon. In this cycle, reduced electricity sales driven by consumer self-sufficiency compel utilities to raise tariffs to cover fixed network costs, which in turn further encourage greater adoption of distributed generation, thereby accelerating the decline in sales. To address this issue, the present study examines the maximum allowable penetration level of distributed generation resources and Prosumers that prevents the formation of the death spiral. A standard three-bus network is modeled, and the corresponding techno-economic analyses are performed using GAMS software. Furthermore, a sensitivity analysis is conducted on key parameters, including fixed network costs, consumer self-sufficiency levels, and tariff structures, to assess how variations in these factors influence the critical penetration threshold. The results highlight the need to manage distributed generation penetration and monitor economic parameter sensitivities to preserve financial stability and prevent the onset of the death spiral.
