IRS-Enabled Visible Light NOMA for Blockage-Resilient Indoor Connectivity: System Model and IRS Units Allocation

چکیده :
Visible light communication (VLC) offers large unlicensed bandwidth for indoor access but is highly dependent on the line-of-sight (LOS) path, making it vulnerable to blockage. This paper studies a dual–intelligent reflecting surface (IRS) assisted downlink VLC system using non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) to sustain communication when LOS is fully obstructed. A ceiling-mounted transmitter and two wall-mounted IRSs with steerable mirror units redirect optical power to users. Closed-form expressions are derived to allocate mirror units while meeting channel gain ordering, maintaining continuity during LOS-to-reflection handoff, and satisfying the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) and successive interference cancellation (SIC) requirements. We also determine the minimum IRS size needed for feasibility. Simulations show that the proposed strategy stabilizes reflected gains, preserves NOMA decoding, and reduces outage probability by over 50% under blockage.
