Design of a Three-Stage OTA with Wide Capacitive Load Range Using Dual-Path and Q-Factor Compensation

This paper presents the design of a three-stage operational transconductance amplifier (OTA) that utilizes a combination of cascode compensation techniques Q-factor topology, and fundamental compensation methods. The amplifier is capable of driving capacitive loads ranging from 300 pF to 1000 pF. To enhance the circuit's frequency bandwidth, left-half plane (LHP) zeros are introduced and aligned with the LHP poles. Additionally, a slew-rate enhancer circuit is implemented to improve the slew rate of the amplifier. The design is implemented using 180 nm CMOS technology with a 1.8 V supply voltage. Simulation results reveal that the amplifier achieves a unity-gain bandwidth of 3.8392 MHz for a capacitive load of 300 pF. It also delivers a DC gain of 140.103 dB and a slew rate of 1.3473 V/µS for the same load, while achieving a figure of merit(FOM) of 15.23 MHz.pF/µW with a power consumption of 35.809 µW.
