Closed-Form Circularization of Hyperbolic Dispersion with Isotropic Energy Transport

Hyperbolic dispersion is defined by open isofrequency contours that result in substantially anisotropic energy transport and noncollinearity of phase and group velocities. This dispersion inherently restricts isotropic wave propagation and regulates energy transfer. In this investigation, we present a closed-form coordinate transformation framework that enables the accurate circularization of hyperbolic dispersion surfaces. Unlike nonlocal or spectral-domain transformation approaches, the proposed framework operates entirely at the level of the dispersion metric and imposes explicit geometric conditions on the transformation Jacobian, rather than relying on arbitrary coordinate rescaling. The transformation maps hyperbolic contours into circular contours by treating the iso-frequency contour as a geometric object regulated by an effective metric, without using resonant effects, numerical optimization, or full-wave simulation. The resulting dispersion geometry ensures collinearity between the wave vector and group velocity, thereby reinstating isotropic energy transport. The theoretical predictions are confirmed by direct MATLAB calculations of iso-frequency contours and group-velocity directions, providing a clear and computationally lightweight route for dispersion and energy-transport engineering in anisotropic wave media.
