Design and Implementation of an Integrated Safety Monitoring System in Underground Mines Based on IoT, LoRa, and UWB

چکیده :
Ensuring safety in underground mines remains a primary concern due to unpredictable hazards such as toxic gas leakage, potential structural collapses, and challenges in maintaining stable communication. In this study, an integrated system named "Guardian Mine System" (GMS) based on the Internet of Things (IoT) was implemented for real-time monitoring of workers' health and environmental safety. The proposed architecture comprises smart wearable devices and an exploration robot, capable of both manual and autonomous operation, for mapping high-risk areas. To overcome signal propagation limitations in tunnels, the Long Range (LoRa) protocol is utilized to ensure stable long-distance data exchange. Additionally, Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology is developed for precise localization to facilitate crisis management. Experimental results and simulations demonstrate that the proposed system enhances localization accuracy and environmental coverage, significantly reduces false alarms, and significantly improves reaction speed to emergency incidents.
