An Improved Gap Metric-Based Weighting Method for Multiple Model Control

چکیده :
In this paper, an improved strategy for the multiple model control of nonlinear systems is presented. Conventional multiple model control frameworks operate by decomposing the nonlinear system into a set of local linear models, designing independent controllers for each, and blending them through an appropriate combination mechanism. A significant challenge in these methods lies in the design of the combination mechanism, which is as crucial as the initial decomposition for ensuring closed-loop stability and performance. Although current gap metric-based weighting strategies are highly effective for ensuring smooth transitions and trajectory generation, they may overlook closed-loop stability during the combination step. To bridge this critical gap, this work proposes a method that integrates stability of the local linear models directly into the gap metric calculations used to derive the weighting functions. This integration ensures that the global controller not only prioritizes smoothness but also actively enforces stability conditions across all operating regions. The efficacy of the proposed approach is validated through comprehensive simulations of a highly nonlinear continuous stirred-tank reactor (CSTR). The results demonstrate its superior performance in maintaining stability while providing effective reference tracking.
