چکیده :
The induction motor (IM) is, by far, the most widely used motor type in the industry, especially for fixed-speed line-start applications. However, due to the rotor slip and joule losses of the rotor cage, IMs hardly achieve high-efficiency classes. A promising alternative to the IM for reaching higher efficiency classes is the line-start synchronous reluctance motor (LS-SynRM). The primary design challenge of an LS-SynRM is its synchronization ability. This paper presents a detailed study of a 4kW-1500rpm LS-SynRM over its synchronization region. The performance characteristics of the case-study motor under different operating conditions are calculated using transient finite element simulations. The objective is to provide design guidelines for extending the synchronization region, ensuring a healthy start-up of the motor in line-start applications.
