On-The-Fly Frequency-Oriented Calibration for Real-time, Power Efficient, and Dynamic Control of Smart Lighting Systems

چکیده :
Smart indoor lighting control systems are required to provide desired illuminance values at different locations, work zones, while optimizing energy consumption. Each luminaire has specific effect on each light sensor, where it could be modeled as coefficients. Such coefficients are commonly obtained through sequential calibration procedures including multiple switching steps. This procedure adversely affects user comfort, especially in indoor environment facing various changings in system elements. This paper presents a smart lighting control system with a novel frequency-based calibration approach for pulse-width-modulated (PWM) dimmable luminaires, where this method enables periodic re-estimation of illuminance contribution coefficients without interrupting lighting operation. By temporarily assigning a distinct switching frequency to one luminaire at a time while keeping dimming levels unchanged, its contribution can be isolated in the frequency domain from combined illuminance measurements. Experimental results show calibration errors are below 3%, while the closed-loop system maintains illuminance within ±5% of target levels and improves energy efficiency by minimizing overall dimming levels.
