چکیده :
This paper presents the design, experimental validation, and techno-economic analysis of a household-scale anaerobic biomass digester for off-grid electricity generation. The system includes a 1.4 m³ digester integrated with a 2 kW biogas-fueled generator and was operated for 60 days under real rural conditions in Ardabil Province, Iran. With a daily feeding rate of 55 kg of cow manure, the digester produced an average of 2 m³/day of biogas at ambient temperatures ranging from (-14) °C to 18°C, resulting in 2.5–4.4 kWh/day of electrical output. A techno-economic comparison with an equivalent photovoltaic system showed approximately 15% lower energy production but significantly lower levelized cost of energy and shorter payback period due to the elimination of battery storage. Regional potential analysis estimates an annual distributed generation capacity of 171,690 MWh.
