A Coordinated Planning Strategy for EV Charging Infrastructure and Reactive Power Support in Distribution Networks Using a Composite System Performance Index

چکیده :
The rapid deployment of Electric Vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure poses multidimensional challenges to radial distribution networks, affecting voltage security, operational efficiency, and service reliability. Moving beyond sequential planning, this paper introduces a unified co-optimization framework for the simultaneous siting of EV Charging Stations (EVCS) and shunt capacitors. At its core is a novel Composite System Performance Index (CSPI) that amalgamates normalized metrics for voltage stability, a suite of reliability indices (SAIFI, SAIDI, CAIDI), and active power loss into a single, tractable objective function. A Genetic Algorithm (GA) is tailored to minimize the CSPI, thereby identifying configurations that optimally balance these often-competing criteria. Extensive simulations on the IEEE 33-bus system compare four strategic paradigms: base case, unplanned EV integration, optimized EV placement, and the proposed co-optimized strategy. Results reveal that the coordinated approach achieves a superior Pareto front, reducing active power losses by up to 74% relative to the unplanned scenario while fully restoring voltage profiles and quantifying the reliability trade-off. This work establishes the CSPI as a decisive tool for planners to design future-proof, high-penetration EV distribution systems.
