چکیده :
Several factors should be considered to provide optimal settings for directional overcurrent relays (DOCRs) in microgrids, such as high penetration of distributed generation (DG), load/generation variation, active network management (ANM), microgrid configuration (grid-connected/islanded modes), network topological changes (radial/ring/meshed topologies), generation uncertainty, especially in inverter-interfaced DGs, such as photovoltaic (PV) panels, etc. This paper examines another important factor that can affect DOCRs coordination in microgrids. The mentioned factor is the loss of generation (LoG), which refers to sudden and partial loss of power generated by DGs due to local faults and anomalies which do not isolate the DGs due to fault ride-through (FRT) conditions. Verifications have been carried out on a standard IEEE 20-kV 5-bus microgrid simulated in DIgSILENT PowerFactory 15.1. The results show 1.2% and 11.3% of improvement in DOCRs average operating times, in grid-connected and islanded mode, respectively, in case the impact of LoG is carefully considered.
