Beam arrangement comparison for two-beam ultrasonic flowmeter

چکیده :
This study explores the comparative performance of two-beam configurations in ultrasonic flowmeters, with a focus on calibration accuracy and flow profile correction. Ultrasonic flowmeters are pivotal for precise, non-invasive flow measurement in industries ranging from oil and gas to wastewater management. Leveraging computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and acoustic simulations via COMSOL Multiphysics, this research evaluates "crossed" and "parallel" beam arrangements in a two-beam flowmeter design. The crossed arrangement intersects the central pipe axis, while the parallel arrangement positions beams equidistant and parallel to the pipe's centerline. Using the Flow Profile Correction Factor (FPCF) as the key metric, the findings demonstrate superior performance and stability in the parallel arrangement, particularly under variable flow conditions. The results are corroborated by simulation validations against experimental benchmarks, affirming the robustness of the parallel arrangement for consistent flow measurement.
