MRI Data Quality: Do You Check Before You Trust?

چکیده :
Structural MRI (sMRI) data provide an essential anatomical framework for multimodal neuroimaging, supporting both MRI-derived modalities (e.g., fMRI, DTI) and source reconstruction in M/EEG. Therefore, the fidelity of all derived analyses is critically dependent on the quality of sMRI data, establishing rigorous sMRI quality control (QC) as an essential prerequisite. Manual quality control, while traditional and still prevalent, is a time-consuming, subjective, and expertise-dependent process. To address these limitations, researchers have developed multiple computational tools to enhance the efficiency and standardization of QC process. The present study reviews prominent, currently available sMRI QC software and methodologies, and offers a comparison based on their strengths and weaknesses. Among these tools, automatic and semi-automatic solutions are gaining prominence, as the expansion of imaging datasets necessitates such tools to maintain methodological rigor and research reproducibility.
