Fault-Tolerant Control and Torque Ripple Reduction of a Modular Dual Three-Phase PMSM Drive

چکیده :
In sensitive and medium-to-high power electric drive applications, where high reliability is critical, Dual Three-Phase Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (DTP-PMSMs) are employed. In such systems, each three-phase set is powered by an independent three-phase inverter. This paper analyzes the performance and control of this drive under fault conditions, where reliability is further enhanced by using separate microcontrollers for each inverter. Due to the lack of data exchange between the two microcontrollers, each three-phase set is independently modeled and controlled in a stationary reference frame. It is demonstrated that when an open-circuit fault occurs in one winding, the second harmonic torque component emerges in the faulty three-phase set. Additionally, for specific fault scenarios—such as a fault in one winding of a three-phase set or faults in two windings across different sets—torque ripple can be eliminated by compensating the current phases in the remaining healthy windings. The proposed analytical methods and control strategies are validated through Simulink simulations under healthy and various fault conditions.
