Numerical study of different pillar shapes using deterministic lateral displacement method for particle separation

چکیده :
Deterministic lateral displacement is a discretization method for particles functioning according to the size and particle hydrodynamic formability variations. It was first introduced by Huang. DLD tools are composed of distinct arrays being able to direct particles with different dimensions in a variety of paths. In this paper, we investigated and compared the results of experimental work with simulation. This study aims numerically separate platelets from RBCs (Red Blood Cells) and WBCs (White Blood Cells). Then we designed a new geometry in our simulation for separating microbeads with a variety of diameters and we also investigated other pillar shapes' effects on separation. The results showed a good correlation between numerical and experimental cases. Using external forces and fields may give even a better separation result in future works.
