Brillouin Distributed Temperature PCF-based Optical Sensor for Highly Sensitive Pipeline Oil Leak Detection

چکیده :
Early and reliable detection of oil pipeline leaks remains a critical challenge for industrial safety and environmental protection. In this study, we propose a novel large-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) designed to achieve high Brillouin sensitivity for distributed temperature sensing. The engineered PCF features an exceptionally flat, near-zero dispersion at 1550 nm with endlessly single mode operation and exhibits very low nonlinear coefficients, enabling enhanced Brillouin frequency shift (BFS) responses to temperature variations. These characteristics improve the signal-to-noise ratio and measurement accuracy compared with conventional PCFs. By integrating the PCF with Brillouin Optical Time Domain Reflectometry (BOTDR), the system supports long-range, real-time monitoring of buried oil pipelines, demonstrating strong capability in detecting subtle temperature anomalies caused by leaks. This work provides a promising platform for next-generation pipeline monitoring systems, combining high sensitivity, structural robustness, and compatibility with standard telecommunication wavelengths. The novelty and significance of the proposed design lie in its improved detection precision and practical applicability in industrial environments.
