Wave Propagation in Ferrimagnetic Medium with Transverse Time-Varying Bias Field

چکیده :
Time-varying electromagnetic media have extensively been studied and implemented in recent years, with almost all literature focusing on temporal modulation of permittivity. In contrast, time-varying permeability remains largely unexplored, which provides the primary motivation for this work. Here we propose and investigate a mechanism for time-varying permeability, by means of riding a small temporal fluctuation on top of a static magnetic bias field, applied to realistic ferrite at microwaves. Wave propagation normal to the bias direction is studied by computing the modes and the corresponding dispersion diagram of a time periodic ferrite from first principles. Furthermore, scattering of microwaves from a slab of such medium is presented, revealing many harmonics generated in the reflection and transmission spectra. All results confirm the potential realization of time-varying permeability at microwave frequencies.
