Generation and Spatial Manipulation of Second-order Nonlinear Harmonic using Binary Metasurfaces

چکیده :
The non-linear characteristic has ushered in a novel avenue for enhancing the adaptability and effectiveness of microwave devices. By leveraging the non-linear effect within metasurfaces an augmented degree of freedom is attainable in the electromagnetic wave manipulation. In this paper, a non-linear reflective metasurface is proposed to generate and control the spatial features of the second spectral harmonic. Two binary meta-atoms have been designed to exhibit “0” and “1” phase digital states upon illumination by a high-power excitation and act as a fully reflector screen upon illumination by low-power radiation. The wave-metasurface interaction has been elaborately investigated through a hybrid method: full-wave and harmonic-balance analysis. Several illustrative examples such as four-beam scattering have been presented to show the capability of the proposed nonlinear metasurface in generation and spatial control of the second harmonic. The designed metasurface is fabricated and measured and the experimental results validate the proper functioning of the device. The use of this product is in the construction of a dual-band array antenna with a large frequency gap and for amplification of signals.
